Ringberg Workshop ``New Trends in HERA Physics 2003''
September 28 - October 3, 2003
Programme
Venue
The workshop will take place at Ringberg Castle, which is located on
Mount Ringberg and overlooks Lake Tegernsee, one of the most picturesque
locations to be found in the whole of southern Bavaria. The castle,
which is owned and operated by the Max-Planck-Society, represents an
ideal venue for scientific conferences, offering as it does impressive
architecture, displays of fine art, excellent food, spectacular views of
the surrounding mountains, not to mention the fresh air and great walks
- the combined effect of which tends to inspire its guests to progress
rapidly in their fields of research. More specific information on
Ringberg Castle, including coloured photographs, is available from
History of the Castle.

Philosophy
The purpose of the workshop is to gather the latest experimental results
from HERA and to capture new trends in HERA phenomenology. The idea is
to have about 35 presentations of 35 minutes, each followed by a
10-minute discussion. The presentations are by experts for experts, but
should be suitable for a mixed audience of both theoreticians and
experimentalists. H1 members are supposed to also cover ZEUS results and
vice versa. This is the right place to point out existing discrepancies
between experimental data and theoretical predictions and to identify
projects to be attacked in the future. There will also be a discussion
session dedicated to the physics priorities of the experimental HERA II
program.
Topics
- Proton structure
- Spin physics
- Final states
- Heavy-flavour production
- Elastic meson production and di#ractive processes
- Beyond the standard model
- Optimization of HERA II
- HERA III
Participants
Participation will be by invitation only. The number of participants,
including the conference secretary, will be limited to 40 by the rooming
capacity of the castle. Please indicate whether you will be able to
accept the invitation by filling out the enclosed electronic
questionnaire and returning it via e-mail to Mrs. Doris Laudahn. The deadline
for registration is June 20, 2003. The participants are strongly
encouraged to stay for the full period of the workshop. Should this be
impossible, the tentative dates of the stay should be indicated on the
questionnaire. Any changes of schedule should be promptly communicated
to the organizers, so that the limited capacity of the castle can be
fully exploited.
Transportation
Travel Guide to Castle Ringberg.
Proceedings
The results of the conference will be disseminated as conference
proceedings, which will be published by World Scientific. Each author
will receive one free copy.
Costs
There will be no conference fee. The living expenses at Ringberg Castle
will be covered by DESY Hamburg and MPI Munich. The costs of
transportation, except for the shuttle bus, cannot be paid from the
conference funds. Beverages taken at the self-service bar and outside
calls from the room telephones will be billed to the participants.
